Sometimes the energy is too strong, and it is not wise or compassionate to try to stay present with it. This is particularly true if you have been traumatized and are experiencing deep fear or anger. If it feels like “too much,” shift the attention to something that brings a sense of balance, safety and/or love. You might open your eyes, remind yourself of where you are, listen to sounds, relax again through your body. You might bring to mind someone who loves and understands you, and sense their care surrounding you. You might reflect on the Buddha or the bodhisattva of compassion, Jesus, Great Spirit, your grandmother, your dog or a favorite tree. You might offer phrases of lovingkindness to places of vulnerability. Meditate on any expression of loving presence that helps you feel less separate or afraid.

You have faith in a system that sometimes seems to work for you and when it doesn’t you adapt your thinking to say, this is obviously good for me and that’s why I’m attracting it. So I started holding images of my books on bookshelves at Barnes & Noble next to Wayne Dyer’s books. I certainly see that. I would see myself. I would see thousands of people watching my videos. I would see myself getting published, in signing book contracts and being on the shelves.  And every day even though the world hadn’t started to mirror what I wanted yet, whenever I would get rejected by a publisher I would hold an image of my books on the shelf next to Wayne Dyer.

I first heard about it years ago when the popular movie, The Secret, was released. Our behaviour corresponds to our state, and our behaviour creates our consequences. I have a struggle. I tend to be defensive. So often though I am trying to be polite, I insight reactions in others. They don’t respond to my intention. They respond to my state. You attract what you are.
